As a youngster, he established the Bluegrass Travellers, a group that played between films at a traveling theatre. Hall wedded Opal “Hootie” McKinney, a Grayson, Virginia resident. Dean Hall, their child, was conceived in 1961. During his active personnel, he appeared on the National Army Broadcasting Network and composed humorous tunes about his military adventures. Hall was admitted into the Hall Of fame on June 13, 2019. Heathen Dan performed his ballad “I Love,” in which the protagonist recounts the parts of life that he adores.

Hall took over as presenter of the serialized southern rock Television program Pop! Hits the County in 1980, succeeding Ralph Emery, and stayed till the program terminated in 1982. Hall and his spouse Dixie Hall were admitted into the Global Moonshine Music Scene in October 2018.
